Where a single split works best
- Bedrooms that overheat in summer, especially loft conversions and top floor flats.
- Home offices and garden rooms where you spend long hours.
- Small shops, salons, treatment rooms and server cupboards.
- Any single room where you want efficient heating as well as cooling. A modern split is an air to air heat pump and will heat a room for a fraction of the cost of an electric heater.
What the installation involves
- A site survey first. We check the wall construction, where the outdoor unit can sit, the pipe route, the condensate route and the electrical supply before we quote.
- Indoor unit mounted level on its back plate, with pipework and cables run through a single core hole or in neat trunking.
- Outdoor unit on wall brackets or ground feet with anti vibration mounts, positioned for airflow and to keep noise away from you and your neighbours.
- Flared or brazed copper pipework, insulated end to end, with condensate falling to a drain or a pump where gravity will not work.
- Pressure testing with oxygen free nitrogen, a deep vacuum, then commissioning and a written commissioning record.
Choosing the unit
- We size every room from its dimensions, glazing, orientation and use, not from a rule of thumb.
- Brands we install include Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, Hitachi, Samsung, Clivet and Sinclair. We will recommend what suits the room and your budget, and we will tell you why.
- Most units now come with Wi-Fi control as standard or as a small add on, so you can switch the bedroom on before you get home.
Brands
We install systems from Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Electric, Hitachi, Samsung, Clivet and Sinclair, and recommend the one that fits the job.
Common questions
How long does a single split installation take?
Most single splits are installed and commissioned in one day. Longer pipe runs, difficult access or high level outdoor units can add time, and we will tell you that at the survey.
Will it heat as well as cool?
Yes. Every system we install is a heat pump that both cools and heats, and in heating mode it is far cheaper to run than direct electric heating.
Do I need an electrician as well?
The electrical supply to the system is installed and certified by a qualified electrician who works with us. It is included in the quote, so there is nothing for you to arrange.
